City were knocked out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup after a Fifth Round 3-0 loss to Arsenal at Meadow Park.

The Robins gave a good account of themselves at Meadow Park, particularly in the first-half, but goals from Kim Little and Victoria Pelova, along with an own goal, were enough to see the holding European champions into the hat for the next round.

Charlotte Healy made five changes to the side which were beaten by Southampton at Ashton Gate last week, with Lauren Bryzkcy, Camila Sáez, Esther Morgan, Vera Jones and Rio Hardy all coming into the side.

Academy products Chloe Giddings, Nia Lewis and Ruby Day all featured on the bench.

City started brightly in Boreham Wood, Jones won an early corner and Syme’s delivery was headed towards goal by Sáez, although it was comfortably saved by Borbe in The Gunners goal.

Lexi Lloyd-Smith combined well with Morgan before the Welsh international’s ball over the top fell to Syme, and City’s skipper saw her shot go just wide.

Mariona Caldentey had the first notable chance for the hosts, firing just over on the edge of the area before Bryzkcy was then called into action, diving down to her left to deny Caitlin Foord.

The Hungarian then pulled off another good save, to deny Olivia Smith after her shot from a corner.

Eventually the deadlock was broken and City were unlucky to fall behind.

Arsenal were awarded a controversial free-kick and Little was able to bundle home from the resulting delivery past Brzykcy.

Little's goal remained the difference at the interval.

Just after the break The Gunners were awarded a penalty after Robinson had brought down Foord in the area.

Alessia Russo stepped up for the hosts but Lauren Bryzkcy pulled off another superb save down to her right to deny the England international from the spot.

In the aftermath, Smith was stretchered off for the hosts resulting in a lengthy stoppage in play.

The hosts soon doubled their lead after Pelova’s strike deflected into the top corner beyond Brzykcy.

City fell further behind with 70 minutes on the clock when Emily Fox’s cross was inadvertently put into her own net by Katie Robinson.

Ward and Farrugia were introduced with just over five minutes of normal time to play, replacing Robinson and Jones.

Lloyd-Smith came close to finding a consolation after she was set free in behind but her effort was straight at Borbe in City’s best chance of the afternoon.
