City fell to a 6-2 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion, confirming their exit from the Women's League Cup at the group stage.
Tianna Teisar and Jazz Bull scored for the Robins against a strong Barclays Women's Super League outfit.
It took seven minutes for the game to see its first goal, Bruna Vilamala firing home to open the scoring.
Steve Kirby's side hit back just four minutes later though, Teisar bagging her first goal for the club with a smart finish into the bottom corner after the the hosts failed to clear.
The parity remained until just shy of the half-hour mark when Rachel McLachlan restored Brighton's lead.
The hosts then made it 3-1 shortly before the break as Pauline Bremer found the top corner from inside the area.
Just as was the case in the first half, both sides found the net early on in the second.
Brighton extended their lead through Michelle Agyemang before Bull finished in the 51st minute following brilliant work from substitute Mari Ward down the left.
With 20 minutes to play, substitute Nikita Parris scored Brighton's fifth, before adding a sixth in the dying stages.
