Both sides made several changes from their league line ups but this was a tie laced with spectacular incidents including a magnificent 45-yard goal from Caroline Weir to give a Bristol a 27th minute lead in their Group Three clash.
New arrival Weir spotted Aston Villa's goalkeeper off her line and sent a superb shot into the net.
Bristol were forced to rely on their own goalkeeper, Mary Earps, to preserve their lead as Villa emerged from the break with a determined attitude. Twice the impressive guardian produced fine saves from Bethan Merrick.
The Villa goalkeeper, Jess Myers, denied Weir's next shot before Nadia Lawrence brought home the decisive second goal in the 57th minute.
Replacement and another new signing, Jade Boho-Sayo, showed how to come off the bench by striking a neat goal.
Boho-Sayo netted a fourth in the 85th minute with an exquisitely placed shot from 20 yards before Earps capped her faultless evening with a fine penalty stop from Katie Wilkinson as Bristol claimed their first win of the season.
