Maria Farrugia and Mari Ward scored the goals as Bristol City Women beat Portsmouth 2-0 in the Third Round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.

Goals in either half for Charlotte Healy's side secured progress in a comfortable victory at the Robins High Performance Centre.

The Robins are back in action on , hosting in Barclay's Women's Super League 2 action.

Healy made three changes from the 4-0 win over Sheffield United as captain Vicky Losada returned to the starting XI alongside Malaika Meena and Vera Jones, taking the places of Marine Dafeur, Emily Syme and Rio Hardy.

In a cagey opening period, the first chances of the game fell to the visitors, as Tia Primmer saw a shot from the edge of the area blocked before former Robin Jazz Bull saw a volley comfortably saved by Fran Bentley.

Just inside the half hour mark, Meg Hornby found Greta Humphries at the back post from a free kick, but she couldn't get her header on target.

City took the lead in the 34th minute as Farrugia capitalised on some hesitancy from Pompey goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor to find the back of the net from a tight angle.

The goal breathed confidence into the City side as a few minutes later they nearly doubled their lead, with Ingle rattling the crossbar from outside the area.

City started the second half as they finished the first as Lloyd-Smith went close, firing narrowly wide from inside the area.

The home side doubled their lead in 10 minutes into the second half as Ward latched onto a long ball in behind, curling the ball stylishly past Erhabor.

Farrugia was in search of her second of the game, cutting in from the left before having a low shot blocked.

Late substitute Marine Dafeur had a chance to add a third just moments after coming on, but couldn't keep her shot from the edge of the area down.

Bentley secured her clean sheet with an impressive save in the final five minutes, clawing out Hornby's long-range effort.
