Aggie Beever-Jones and Abi Harrison scored in either half for the hosts, however goals from Naimh Fahey, Jasmine Matthews, Katie Stengel and Missy Bo-Kearns secured Liverpool's return to the top-flight.

City set a new league and club record attendance at Ashton Gate with 5,752 supporters making their way through the gates in BS3.

🧐 BACKGROUND

Lauren Smith made three changes to the starting XI that lost on the road against Sheffield United last week with Chloe Bull, Flo Allen and Brooke Aspin coming into the side in place of Ella Powell, Ava Kuyken and Aimee Palmer.

Liverpool came into the fixture needing one point to secure promotion back to the FA Women's Super League.

✍️ WHAT HAPPENED?

The first chance of the afternoon fell the way of the visitors when Leanne Kiernan had a shot from just outside the area but Fran Bentley was on hand to make the save.

The Red's top scorer came close again minutes later when she saw her header from close range hit the bar after a long throw was launched into the box from Megan Campbell.

The league-leaders opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Liverpool captain Niamh Fahey slotted in from close range after a scramble in the City box.

Just two minutes later, Satara Murray played a pinpoint through ball to Aggie Beever-Jones whose miscued cross looped over the helpless Rachel Laws and into the far corner of the net to bring the Robins level.

Rachel Furness tried her luck from ranges, before Beever-Jones had an opportunity to put the hosts in front as she latched onto another Satara Murray through ball, however Laws was on hand to save well with her feet.

The fast-paced nature of the game continued throughout the first period as Kiernan raced through on goal, however Brooke Aspin was on hand to make a strong challenge and clear the danger.

The visitors regained the lead five minutes before the break through a familiar face to City fans as Jasmine Matthews fired in from close range after another scramble in the box.

⏱ HALF-TIME

Furness attempted another long range effort minutes into the second half but Bentley back peddled quickly to tip the ball over the bar.

Harrison had her first real sight of goal just over five minutes into the second half as she was gifted the ball in the Liverpool half with just Laws to beat, but the striker's heavy touch allowed the goalkeeper the time needed to come out and collect the ball.

Aspin and Murray then combined to deny Kiernan a clear sight at goal as the speedster bore down on the City.

Stengel opened up a two-goal cushion for Liverpool as she found the bottom corner with a powerful shot following yet another Campbell long throw.

City clawed their way back into the game with 20 minutes to play as Harrison bagged her 19th of the season. Ffion Morgan's delightful cross found the feet of the striker, who neatly picked out the bottom corner to bring the hosts within striking distance.

With just over 10 minutes to play, Liverpool sealed victory and with it the league title when substitute Missy Bo Kearns tapped in from inside the six-yard box.

Carla Humphrey looked almost certain to extend Liverpool's lead going into the final five minutes, however Naomi Layzell made an excellent challenge to stop the former City player in her tracks.

With just minutes remaining substitute Jasmine Bull came close as she struck the ball goal wards from distance but Laws was there to tip the ball over the bar and stop the Bristolian from getting on the scoresheet.
