The Robins delighted the 7,045-strong crowd with a performance capped by goals from Grace Clinton, Abi Harrison, Brooke Aspin and Ffion Morgan that merited their title as champions with one game remaining.
📝 BACKGROUND
City went into the game knowing a win would secure them the title and promotion to the WSL.
Head Coach Lauren Smith made one change from the side that had started the eventual 5-0 win over Sunderland, Vicky Bruce return from suspension to replace Gracie Pearse.
✍️ WHAT HAPPENED?
City started brightly with the outstanding Rachel Furness connecting with Harrison’s corner but her header went wide of the far post.
Shania Hayles had a narrowed-angle opportunity when Jodie Hutton’s free-kick was steered back across goal but she shot wide, while Sian Rogers dealt with Harrison’s effort minutes later.
Then came the breakthrough when Clinton picked Kiera Skeels’ pocket and slotted the ball past Rogers to give the Robins the lead.
Charlton had few opportunities but went close in the 36th minute when Freda Ayisi glanced a header wide and the first half ended with Furness crossing and Hayles heading at Rogers as City continued to dominate.
⏱ HALF-TIME
Smith brought on Morgan for Hayles at half-time and, within five minutes, City were two up when Harrison’s corner curled in and went over the line as Brooke Aspin and Hutton put Rogers under pressure.
Fran Bentley pulled off a superb save from former City striker Mel Johnson before Chloe Mustaki and Aimee Palmer were added as fresh legs for City to push on.
And they did just that with Aspin heading in Palmer's corner and Morgan smashing home the fourth from outside the box in the 88th minute to send the crowd wild and cap a Champions' performance.
