Report: Bristol City U18s 1-1 Millwall U18s.

Tommy Conway won and scored a second half penalty to put City ahead just before the hour-mark.

But Millwall struck their equaliser through Jayden Davis around ten minutes later, after the midfielder fired beyond Will Buse.

City started the game as the brighter side, and almost found the opening goal within five minutes. Ayman Benarcus pounced on a defensive error and fed Conway whose strike clipped the wrong side of the post.

Vince Harper was the next player to threaten for City. After beating a defender with a brilliant bit of skill, the Millwall goalkeeper claimed his shot at the second attempt.

Goalkeeper Buse was then called into action for the first time in the game. The ball was put across City’s six-yard box and stabbed forward by a Millwall attacker. It looked like it had given the visitors the lead, but Buse produced a magnificent stop to keep it level.

Nana Boateng would also threaten Buse’s goal later in the first half, with his effort deflected into the side netting.

From the resulting corner, Rob Strachan rose highest for Millwall, but couldn’t direct his header goal-wards as it went over the crossbar.

City would have the final chance before the break through Conway. Being found by Benarcus, he turned well and shot from a tight angle. Leighton Fanshawe in the Millwall goal was forced into a smart save.

They would start the second half in a similar fashion to how they ended the first. Josh Owers was the next City player to try his luck. His effort from distance didn’t really trouble the Millwall goalkeeper, however.

City would have an opportunity to take the lead just before the hour mark. Conway was fouled by a Millwall defender, and the referee duly pointed to the spot with the City man converting from 12 yards.

The opener brought a more attacking approach from Millwall, who almost found an instant reply. A Millwall player shot from the edge of the area, but Buse did well to tip the ball over the bar.

Jay Barton then came within inches of an equaliser for Milwall. Given time and space to shoot from distance, his effort looked to have beaten Buse, but the ball came back out off the crossbar and away from danger.

Millwall’s attacking spell would result in an equaliser though when Davis broke beyond the City defence and fired beyond Buse, leaving the goalkeeper little chance.

The City goalkeeper was called into action as the game dragged towards its conclusion, denying Barton for the second time during the game.

Jemar South-Thomas had the final chance of the game. Shooting from a far distance out, it didn’t trouble the Millwall goalkeeper, as both sides had to settle for a point.

Attention for City will turn to next weekend, as they welcome Charlton Athletic to SGS College on Saturday (November 17^th).
