Bristol City U21 fell 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa U21 in the Professional Game Academy Plate Cup Final.

Louise Apuusi-Tchassem scored twice for Villa with Milly Round and Mia Sorrentino also featuring on the scoresheet.

City's Chloe Giddings and Amelie Curtis scored within a minute of each other to make it 3-2 but a late goal sealed the deal for the Villans.

Aston Villa opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes as Apuusi-Tchassem capitalised on City’s error before slotting the ball past Ella Stowell from close range.

Giddings met Jen Smith’s corner in the 15th minute, but Soffia Kelly made a good save to deny the Young Robin.

Jess Harris’ goal-saving block denied Ruby Tucker from close range before Stowell made a good save to keep out Apuusi-Tchassem.

Maddie Durrant came close, heading Smith’s corner just over the crossbar in the 31st minute.

City looked to have equalised as Jess Harris’s run caused carnage for Villa before Lydia Sallaway’s interception nearly made its way into the back of the net.

Before the break, Durrant tried her luck, attempting to chip Kelly who was high off her line.

Maya Kendell went one-on-one with Kelly in the 49th minute but fell short at the last second.

Then, a minute later, Round doubled the Villans advantage with a strike from distance.

Apuusi-Tchassem bagged her brace in the 62nd minute, finding the roof of the net from close range.

Abbie Britton made a double change in the 64th minute as Freya Sherwood and Erin Freeman made way for Emily Cadell and Emily Arevalo.

Giddings clawed a goal back for City in the 69th minute with a brilliant 30-yard strike before Curtis found the top corner from the edge of the area a minute later to make it 3-2.

Ruby Day and Jen Smith made way for Emily Wilkinson and Katie Aspinall in the 87th minute.

Before the 90-minute mark, Aston Villa scored a fourth as Sorrentino found the back of the net from 25 yards out.
