City picked up a deserved 1-1 draw at Liverpool as Amalie Thestrup's goal against her former team proved enough to take a point back to the South West.

The Dane bagged her fifth of the season shortly after half-time, the hosts levelling minutes later in an entertaining Barclays WSL clash at Prenton Park.

Liv Clark was the first of the two goalkeepers to get her hands on the ball in a quiet first half as she stepped off her line to scoop the ball up with Shanice van de Sanden in pursuit.

On 23 minutes City put together some nice build-up play through the midfield before working it wide to Jamie-Lee Napier. Thestrup attempted to back-heel the wing-back’s cross but the ball found its way into the arms of Teagan Micah.

Chloe Mustaki produced an important block minutes later as Roman Haug picked up the ball in the six-yard box with her back to goal, but the Ireland international stood strong to deny her on the spin.

Naomi Layzell had two chances in quick succession after half-an-hour, first digging out an effort to hit the side-netting before winning a corner thanks to some sharp defending from Amy Rodgers’ cross.

It was City who applied the pressure after the break and a Megan Connolly free-kick caused some problems in the Liverpool area before the hosts managed to scramble the ball clear.

It was Thestrup who made the breakthrough against her former side with 51 minutes on the clock as she profited from chaos in the area to turn Harrison’s shot into the back of the net with the cheekiest of flicks.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to level things up though as Roman Haug headed home five minutes later.

Harrison forced a saved from Micah after 67 minutes as she chased after Morgan’s flick from a Layzell cross, but the Scot could only fire straight at the keeper.

The visitors could have nicked it with four minutes to play as Thestrup fired a low cross into the area but saw it travel just out of reach of Shania Hayles and Mari Ward.

Thestrup was then required in the other box as Liverpool mounted a late surge of pressure, also forcing Clark into a good save to push a long-range effort over the bar.
