Report: Chelsea Women 9 - 0 Bristol City Women.

What Happened?

City had a half chance in the opening minutes as Berger took her time on the ball in the Chelsea box and Logarzo almost pinched the ball off the ‘keeper’s toes. 

After even opening exchange the hosts bagged the first goal of the afternoon courtesy of Fran Kirby. The Chelsea forward picked the ball up on the edge of the area and her shot squeezed under the diving Baggaley to hand the Blues the lead. 

Chelsea almost had a second half way through the first period as Matthews goal-line block prevented Bright from getting on the scoresheet, before Baggaley made a smart stop to tip Kerr’s header round the post. 

A fifteen minute blitz from the hosts saw them open up a 5-goal lead at the half. 

First, Daniels brought down Ji in the box to allow Mjelde to tuck the ball home from the spot, followed by headers from Leupolz and Bright either side of a 25-yards strike from Cuthbert. 

City Women began the second half well as they stayed compact and frustrated the Champions who continued to go in search of more goals.

The hosts then unloaded their bench and kicked through the gears to net a further four times despite a valiant effort from the Robins’ squad. 

England turned in a rebound from Blundell’s shot to take Chelsea’s tally to 6, before Charles tapped in Kerr’s deflected effort. Substitute, Harder flicked in for Chelsea’s eight followed by Kerr’s late strike to wrap up the scoring. 

Salmon had a half chance to grab a consolation goal for the visitors but her curling effort from the edges of the area floated just wide of the far post.
