City were beaten 5-2 by Leicester City at The King Power Stadium.

The Robins had led through Ffion Morgan, but goals from Yuka Momiki, Saori Takarada, Janice Cayman, Jutta Rantala and Denny Draper, either side of Amalie Thestrup’s strike, saw The Foxes pick up all three points in the East Midlands.

Lauren Smith opted for two changes to the side which drew 2-2 with Aston Villa last time out, as Emily Syme and Lisa Evans were replaced by Sille Struck and Brooke Aspin.

Fran Bentley took a significant step towards her return to full fitness as she was named on the bench, her first inclusion in a matchday squad since the reverse fixture in October.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts as CJ Bott forced a good save out of Shae Yanez, as the City ‘keeper turned her fierce shot behind for a corner.

Yanez was heavily involved again as she made two fantastic saves to deny Sam Tierney from close-range and keep the game goalless.

Bott did well to get to the byline and cut the ball back for Tierney, but this time her shot didn't trouble Yanez as The Foxes midfielder could only drag it wide.

City’s shot stopper was almost single-handedly keeping the scores level and she made another superb save down to her left, this time denying Rantala from range.

City took the lead with their first effort of the game as Morgan was gifted the ball by Lize Kop, but the Welsh international still had plenty to do when she floated it into the top corner from 25-yards to put Smith’s side ahead.

Rantala found herself in space on the right as the hosts looked for an equaliser, and she saw her effort from a tight angle cannon off the post and away.

Leiecster found their equaliser on the half-hour mark when Momiki’s intended cross lofted over Yanez and crept in at the back post.

Shannon O’Brien cut inside on the left and let fly, but her effort curled just wide as the game began to open up at The King Power Stadium.

The hosts took the lead as we entered six additional first half minutes as Takarada bundled home from close range.

City flew out of the blocks after the interval and were quickly level, as Thestrup pounced on some hesitation in the Leicester defence to latch onto Amy Rodgers’ long-ball and slot past Kop into the bottom corner for her eighth of the season.

Yanez did remarkably well to palm a dangerous cross away from danger just as the hosts looked destined to score at the back post.

The Foxes did retake the lead moments later when Cayman turned home from the edge of the area.

Smith opted for a double change with 25 minutes left on the clock with Morgan and Ella Powell making way for Shania Hayles and Lisa Evans.

Evans was immediately into the action, playing a neat one-two with Megan Connolly before whipping a ball into the danger area which narrowly evaded any yellow shirts.

Rantala continued to cause City problems and this time cut inside onto her right and whipped a dangerous looking shot goalwards, but Struck stood tall to block it.

The Leicester midfielder did get her reward soon after with a moment of quality, again coming onto her right foot and smashing past Yanez into the roof of the net.

Substitute Draper went through on goal and looked certain to extend The Foxes advantage, but the youngster dragged her shot wide.

Draper did get on the scoresheet with a minute of normal time remaining, turning Rantala’s cross past Yanez.
