City secured their first win of the season as they ran out 4-2 winners over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Lexi Lloyd-Smith, Ffion Morgan, Amalie Thestrup and Abi Harrison all found the net as Steve Kirby secured his first victory in charge.

Steve Kirby made one change to the side that faced Leicester City in the League Cup on Wednesday, Mari Ward returning to the side in place of Jazz Bull at right wing-back.

The first chance of the afternoon fell the way of Morgan who saw her effort from just inside the area saved by Blades stopper Sian Rodgers.

With 12 minutes on the clock, Lloyd-Smith opened the scoring as she latched onto Jamie-Lee Napier's through ball and finished under pressure from her marker.

Fran Bentley was then called into action seven minutes later, making a comfortable save from Maria Farrugia's long-range effort.

Thestrup also had an opportunity before the half-hour mark but fired over the bar after she latched on to Emily Syme's ball into the area.

Morgan doubled City's lead after 31 minutes as she used her pace to get beyond the defender and finish at the near post after Lloyd-Smith's through-ball.

Bentley's services were required again in the 38th minute as she made herself big to deny Farrugia a golden opportunity in the area.

It was almost three in stoppage time, but neither Syme or Thestrup could get enough on Lloyd-Smith's whipped cross.

The final action of the half saw the Blades pull one back as Eva Butler found the top corner from the right of the area.

The Robins came flying out of the blocks after the break and Thestrup made it 3-1 within three minutes of the restart, the Dane reacting first after Syme's 25-yard strike bounced back off the crossbar.

And less than 10 minutes later, it was four. Harrison, having stepped off the bench at half time, made no mistake with a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

The hosts scored their second of the afternoon with 15 minutes to play. Farrugia found the top corner with an excellent strike from the left wing.

Spurred on by their goal, Sheffield United had the better of the closing stages but couldn't really trouble the City backline any further, and they saw out a deserved victory.
