Evans’ header cancelled out Siri Worm’s first-half free-kick in a close encounter in North London, which saw the Robins climb out of the relegation zone.
What happened?
Bristol City almost got off to the perfect start inside in the first two minutes in North London when Molly Pike played Ebony Salmon through on goal, however the forward’s final touch was just too heavy as Spencer ran out and smothered the ball.
Tottenham would take the lead moments later with Worm finding the net from a dead-ball situation.
Spurs won a free kick 20 yards-out and Worm stepped up to take the set-piece. The midfielder – known for her set-piece expertise – curled her effort around the wall and into the bottom corner.
Spurs were looking to double their lead as they continued to pressure the City goal and Kit Graham came close when she cut onto her left and fired back across goal, but the effort was dragged just wide.
Tottenham’s attacking momentum continued with Rehanne Skinner’s side creating a couple of half-chances as half-time approached, however some good goalkeeping from Sophie Baggaley and a great block on the line from Yana Daniels made sure the score remained 1-0 as both teams headed into the changing rooms.
The Robins started fast in the second period as Ebony Salmon came inches away from scoring an outrageous volley from outside the box when a headed clearance fell to the striker, but her effort thundered against the inside of the post and the danger was cleared.
The bright start continued for the Robins and they were reward when stand-in skipper, Gemma Evans found an equaliser.
Molly Pike floated a corner towards Evans at the back post and the skipper rose highest to ball – directing her header onto the post and in.
It was almost a second moments later when Salmon capitalised on a mistake at the back from Spurs and charged towards goal, but a vital recovery challenge from McManus halted Salmon as she went to shoot and cleared the ball for a corner.
Just minutes after coming on for Spur, Gemma Davison tried her luck with a bullet aiming for the top corner, however a brilliant diving save from Baggaley pushed the shot over the bar. The tempo started to slightly decrease as the game went on, with both sides preferring to hold possession rather than charge forward.
Substitute Rachael Williams nearly put the hosts ahead with a couple minutes remaining when she met a deep cross at the back post, however the scrambling Baggaley made a great save at her near post to deny the forward.
It was a tense ending for both sides as neither team were able to find a winner, meaning the points were shared at The Hive.

With the Robins entering the break on the back-foot and trailing 1-0, it was important that they came out firing in the second half to set the pace for the remainder of the match.
They did just that. Salmon and Harrison put pressure on the Spurs’ defence, which led to City earing a corner that eventually would lead to the equaliser.
Molly Pike whipped a corner deep towards the back post to find Evans, who was swamped by Spurs defenders, however the Welsh International managed to rise highest. She met the ball with a powerful header, which smashed the inside of the post and into the back of the net.
The equaliser saw Spurs ease of the gas as they grew more cautious of the City attack, which resulted in a close affair until the final whistle.
Player of the Match: Gemma Evans
Evans has taken over the armband from Jas Matthews since she was ruled out for the season, and the Welsh International put in a captain’s performance at both ends of the pitch today.
The 24-year-old was a rock at the back once again, with the Spurs attack struggling to make their way past Evans on multiple occasions. She also managed to grab a goal at the other end, with her bullet header proving vital for the Robins.
