City exited the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup with one game to go in Group D as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Rosella Ayane’s brace added to a Kit Graham penalty as the Lilywhites went top of the pile.

Lauren Smith’s side registered the first effort of the evening as Shania Hayles struck the side netting with a powerful strike.

Mari Ward broke into the area after 13 minutes and found Hayles again but the forward’s pass for Jesse Woolley was cut out.

The hosts were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead after 18 minutes as Brooke Aspin hauled back Ayane in the penalty area, Graham making no mistake from the spot.

It took 10 minutes for the hosts to double their advantage as Ayane capitalised on a defensive error to slot home from a tight angle.

A save from distance and a bit of brave goalkeeping from Benedicte Haaland kept the scores level going into half-time.

City had some moments in the second half, but Spurs put the game to bed after 72 minutes as Ayane got her second of the night with a tidy finish inside the area.

A dangerous-looking break from Ward and substitute Amalie Thestrup created a chance for Tianna Teisar who misfired.

The evening saw debuts for two Young Robins as Manon Pearce and Maya Kendell of the Under-21s both stepped off the bench.
