Bristol City Women are now back in training and have welcomed three new faces this week, with Maria Farrugia, Gemma Lawley and Emily Mutch all joining the Robins ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
With the fixtures imminent, it is set to be an exciting season with changes to the league structure to expand the Barclay’s Women’s Super League from 12 to 14 teams from the 2026/27 season.
This new format will mean the below changes from next season:
The top two teams in WSL2 will secure automatic promotion
The third-placed WSL2 side will enter a play-off against the 12th-placed WSL team
These changes elevate the promotion battle to new heights.
Head Coach Charlotte Healy – who joined this summer from Manchester United – said: “We are excited by the new additions, and it has been a great first week in training.
‘The change to the division means it will be more competitive than ever so we know this season will be exciting.
“We are ambitious, and we want to be back in the WSL so all our efforts will be to get us back there. Our supporters will play a huge role in what we do, and we can’t wait to see them at Ashton Gate.”
Excitement is building, and the 2025/26 season kicks off in September whilst fixtures are released at 10am on Friday, July 25th.
