City Women stars joined the Robins Foundation on Friday, March 8th to celebrate International Women's Day.

Shae Yanez, Fran Bentley, Amalie Thestrup and Amy Rodgers joined the Foundation's Women and Girls coaches to deliver football activities in local primary schools - as part of the Let Girls Play campaign

The campaign, coinciding with International Women's Day, aims to get as many girls as possible all playing football on the same day in schools across England.

Here’s what happened throughout the day:

  • Jasmine Bull and Megan Connolly joined the Foundation at Imperial Sports Ground for the Let Girls Play Football Festival. The duo were also joined by City mascot, Red!
  • Shae Yanez visited West Town Lane Academy, helping the girls in years 5 and 6 learn new skills. Shae presented the teams with a brand new Premier League Primary Stars kit, as part of the League’s ongoing support for women’s and girls’ football.
  • Fran Bentley went to Cotham Gardens and the keeper was impressed with the number of girls at the session.
  • Amalie Thestrup and Amy Rodgers took part in some competitive games with students from Stoke Bishop C of E Primary School. Thestrup and Rodgers learned about the work the pupils have been doing about sexism.

City's Fran was impressed with the girls' skill at Cotham Gardens. She could not believe the number of girls involved in the session.

Fran said: "It's great to see the work of Grace and her team at the Robins Foundation in getting more girls involved in football.

"When I was young, I was the only girl in my year who played football and I'd have to play with the boys. I would've loved to have so many friends playing."

The Foundation's Women and Girls lead Grace Phillips was excited to have City players join in with her sessions.

Grace said: "My role in the Foundation is to encourage participation in sport from women and girls across Bristol so to have some amazing women who have professional careers in sport come along and act as role models for the girls was incredible.

"It was also fantastic to visit new schools and meet even more young girls who are passionate about football!

"International Women's Day is a perfect opportunity for us to inspire the next generation of Lionesses."

The Foundation delivers a range of physical and educational activities in local partner primary schools through the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
