Bristol City is joining clubs around the country taking part in Green Football’s Great Save!
Green Football’s Great Save is the world’s biggest climate-football campaign, which rallies the entire football community - fans, players, pundits, clubs, leagues, grassroots teams and schools - to take action to tackle climate change and protect the future of the game. It runs from 11th March - 2nd April.
This year is all about keeping sports kit in play for longer - whether by donating, selling, reusing or upcycling - helping to reduce waste, save money, and support those in the community who may otherwise lack access to kit.
Our dedicated Green Football fixtures will be City Men vs Norwich City on Friday, March 14th and City Women vs Charlton on Sunday, March 16th.
We're calling all City fans attending City Men's clash with Norwich City and City Women's game against Charlton Athletic to wear their old and or vintage City shirts as part of Green Football Weekend.
Dig out your old City shirts and get behind the team and the Green Football theme of 'The Great Save'!
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
The Green Football Cup is an annual competition where fans take small environmental actions to support their club and help the planet.
By donating old kits, making sustainable pledges, or taking green actions, your efforts earn your club points and help them climb the Green Football Cup league table.
By recording your goal, you’ll also be entered to win prizes including a year of Sky Sports.
Head to www.greenfootball.org to log your action and enter the prize draw. You could win:

WHY GET INVOLVED?
Climate change is threatening the future of football, with the FA estimating that 120,000 grassroots games are cancelled per year due to pitch flooding. By 2050, one in four English football clubs can expect partial or total stadium flooding each year.
Every year, an estimated 100,000¹ tonnes of sportswear ends up in UK landfills, which is the equivalent to 951 football shirts every minute—or 500 million per year. Landfills produce large amounts of methane - one of the most toxic greenhouse gases - which fuels climate change. Keeping kit in play for just nine more months could reduce its carbon, water, and waste footprint by up to 30%.
Sarah Jacobs, Green Football Director, said: “Football has an unequalled power to drive change, and it’s incredible to see so many clubs, fans, grassroots teams and players coming together to help save kit from landfill. Whether it’s donating a shirt or finding a new purpose for old kit, every action contributes to reducing waste, promoting sustainability in football and helping to protect the game we love."
HOW ARE WE MAKING A DIFFERENCE?
Project Whitebeam is a joint effort from the Bristol Sport clubs - City men and women, Bristol Bears men and women, Bristol Flyers and Ashton Gate Stadium – which recognises, measures and mitigates the Group’s impact on the environment.
Since launching in the summer of 2022, Project Whitebeam has already won multiple national awards and City have recently been awarded EFL Green Clubs Gold status for the initiative.
DEDICATED MATCHDAYS
City will dedicate Friday night’s City Men’s fixture against Norwich City on March 14th and City Women’s fixture against Charlton on Sunday, March 16th, to Green Football’s Great Save.
We’re calling all City fans attending to wear old or vintage shirts in line with the Green Football theme!
Throughout the week, City will announce further matchday activities and initiatives linked to Project Whitebeam and its commitment to the environment ahead of Green Football’s Great Save.
