City Women secure all three points against Sheffield United.

In wet and windy conditions at the SGS College Stoke Gifford Stadium it was Tanya Oxtoby’s side who went behind in the eleventh minute. Jade Pennock found herself in a couple metres of space on the edge of the City Women box and her sublime effort cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar. 

City responded well and applied immediate pressure on the Sheffield back-line, creating a number of half chances but the defence stood firm and were equal to all of the home side’s attempts. 

The home side drew level in the twenty-sixth minute when Juelitte Kemppi found Lucy Graham on the edge of the box and the midfielder curled her effort into the far corner past goalkeeper Davies, giving the Scotland international her third goal in two games. 

City then found themselves in the driving seat and had a number of attempts on goal, Katie Rood forced a fine save from Davies before going agonisingly close when her looping header bounced off the crossbar. 

Bristol City started the second half as they left the first, constantly probing the edge of the Sheffield United box and creating chances, but not quite putting them away. 

That was until Graham whipped a cross into the danger area and Rood hit the woodwork yet again as her header bounced of the foot of the post, but skipper Loren Dykes was quickest too react and hammered the ball home to give her side the lead.

Oxtoby’s side continued to press and went close through Graham and Kemppi, but they had to wait until the seventy-second minute to get their third goal, Jess Woolley produced a sublime finish from the tightest of angles to give the home side a two goal cushion. 

The constant heavy rain made it hard for both teams to play the ball across the floor as the ninety minute mark neared, City had one final opportunity to make it four, but Pattinson couldn’t quite steer Humphrey’s cross on target meaning the game finished 3-1.
