On Tuesday, November 4th, City Women's players visited after-school clubs run by the Bristol City Robins Foundation as part of EFL Week of Action.
Pupils at West Town Lane Academy were joined by Emily Mutch, Jess Ziu, and Maria Farrugia, and pupils from Victoria Park Primary School welcomed Ella Powell and Gemma Lawley.
Both clubs are part of the Robins Foundation’s Primary School provision, which focuses on encouraging pupils across schools in Bristol to develop their skills both in the classroom and on the pitch.
Powell and Lawley attended one of the Foundation’s Girls Football after-school clubs, centred around creating safe spaces for girls to learn, stay active, and have fun.
During a Q&A, they shared how they had begun playing football with boys and were happy to have seen girls' football develop since their childhoods.
Ella said:
“I remember when I was young, I played with the boys for about 5 or 6 years, and the first day I went and played with the girls, it just felt right. It felt fun.
“At the end of the day, it's just an opportunity to have fun and do something outside with your friends. And if not, you know, the boys thing that it's made out to be. It's just a group of people, you know, enjoying a hobby together.”
