Backed by a crowd of over 2,600 at Ashton Gate, City Women fell to a 6-0 defeat as the visitors stormed into a commanding first-half lead.
An improved second-half display was too little too late for the Robins, though Foster praised her side for their adaptability.
"It was always going to be tough; Man City are a top side," she said.
"We were much improved in the second half once we adapted to things, but we haven’t come across that level of quality this season, so it was a big test.
"As the game went on, we managed to deal with things better, but you can’t fault the effort of our players. If you look at Man City’s starting team, I think it’s a compliment to us that they felt the need to play that strong - they’ve got quality players and it will be a learning curve for us.
"I say it week-in-week-out, but you can’t fault the effort and endeavour of the girls and as the game went on we had a couple of opportunities. The fans were fantastic too in that they got behind us every time we went forward and that spurred us on."
