To mark International Women’s Day, Bristol City Robins Foundation and City Women joined forces to support girls' football sessions as part of England Football’s Biggest Ever Football Session, in partnership with Barclays.
The initiative aims to encourage as many girls as possible to get involved in football, reinforcing the commitment to providing equal access to the sport in schools across the country.
With schools nationwide taking part, the Robins Foundation supported Ashton Park Schools Sports Partnership in south Bristol and St Bede’s Catholic College in north Bristol as they hosted their own football sessions.
City Women players Amy Rogers and Mari Ward travelled north of the river to St Bede’s, engaging with students and soaking in the energy and enthusiasm of the young players.
Meanwhile in south Bristol, City mascot Red joined the Foundation’s Primary Schools team at Imperial Sports Ground, adding to the excitement of the event. Students took part in a tournament-style competition, testing their penalty-taking skills against Red.
Throughout the event, students were encouraged to celebrate each other through the Premier League Primary Stars values. They nominated classmates and players from other teams who they felt had been ambitious, inspiring, connected, and fair throughout the day.
The Foundation's Primary Schools Manager Dan Hall said,
"Using the Premier League Primary Stars values allowed the girls to understand the positive impact that their actions can make on those around them.
"It was great to see so many smiling faces at the festival and the girls didn't hesitate to share if they believed their classmates had demonstrated these values.
"A huge thank you also goes out to Bristol City for gifting us some copies of You Reds to hand out. The girls really enjoyed learning more about their favourite players."
The day was a fantastic celebration of inclusivity, empowerment, and the growing role of women in football, reinforcing the commitment to ensuring every girl has the opportunity to play.
