Midfielder Rachel Furness will leave Bristol City at the end of the season, following the conclusion of her contract.

The talismanic midfielder, who helped the Robins secure the Barclays Women's Championship title last season, has made 23 appearances for the club since joining in January last year and departs with our best wishes for the future.

She said: "It's been a privilege to play for Bristol City for the last season and a half and I've made friendships and memories to last a lifetime.

"I want to thank the supporters for their incredible backing both on the road and at Ashton Gate, and in return I hope I've been able to help create some special memories for all of you.

"I know I'll look back on this chapter of my career with great fondness, and I wish my teammates, the staff, supporters and everyone associated with the club the very best of luck for the future."

Lauren Smith added: "Furney has been a credit to the club and a brilliant leader on and off the pitch.

"In a short space of time, her impact has been inspirational and it's been a privilege to work with her."
