Håland heroics help City into the semis.

Such is the nature of current climate, Bristol City Women would be without their first choice shot-stopper after Sophie Baggaley tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday morning.

The Norwegian ‘keeper was handed her first start for the club and stepped up to the plate with a commanding display to help City Women secure their place in the final four.

“It was a good opportunity for me to show what I am here for. Obviously, I am upset about the circumstance and I hope Sophie is doing well at home, but it was nice to get an opportunity to show what I can do,” said Håland.

The 23-year-old commanded her box with authority throughout the game and made an incredible point-blank save to deny Silva of Aston Villa early in the first half, which would ultimately prove to be the difference between the two sides.

“I was something that we have worked on the in our goalkeeper sessions throughout the week. In fact, we even did almost the same thing in the warm-up, so shoutout to our goalkeeper coach Dan for preparing me.

“It was a great team performance today and I am very proud of the team given everything that has gone on today.”

The ‘keeper certainly had a debut that she would never forget.
