Humphrey urges Robins to start strong.

City Women are into their final two games of the Barclays FAWSL campaign with four teams in the frame at the foot of the table, all separated by just three points.

The Robins take on the Red Devils at Twerton Park and Humphrey has encouraged the group to use last weekend’s two-goal fightback as confidence and inspiration ahead of this weekend’s match-up.

Speaking to Robins TV the midfielder said: “Everyone knows what is at stake. Obviously, the only priority is for us to stay in the division, and everyone wants to go into the last two games and get maximum points.

“I know everyone will do everything they can to get three points. They [Manchester United] are a good team and they maybe weren’t on form, but they had a good result this weekend so we’re looking to break that back up again.

“We want to hit the ground running at the start of the game. I thought in the first five minutes against Villa we created chances but then we conceded the goal and probably didn’t execute the game plan how we would have liked. We’re looking to start well, get at them and show what we can do.

“I think it’s important to start well and then you get a bit of belief within the group and you’re either holding on to what you have got or you’re building on that. Hopefully we can disrupt their rhythm and create our own chances.”

Humphrey has praised the whole squad for their attitude over the second half of the season to claw back points and make up ground in the table, which was typified in last weekend’s dramatic comeback.

“We have got to focus on ourselves, and belief is massive. The way the result went last weekend, to come back from two goals down is only going to instil more belief within the group. Even when we’re not playing our best, we can still create chances and we have shown we can fight until the last minute and get a goal.

“Since Matt came in he has always talked about the importance of the depth of the squad and that showed at the weekend. I thought the subs made a fantastic impact - they changed the game, it’s so important knowing that everyone is on board and working together to get three points.”
