🎥 Sargeant is relishing being back in action
The 27-year-old had been sidelined for the best part of 15 months as she recovered from a knee-ligament injury. She has praised the club’s medical staff and the support of her teammates in helping her overcome the obstacles presented to her throughout rehabilitation.
“It was nice to get some minutes [last weekend]. It’s been a long road, there have been ups and downs, but I finally got there. I feel fit, I feel good and hopefully I can get back more minutes and get back with the team properly,” said Sargeant.
“I wouldn’t wish anyone what I have had to go through. The support from the physios, Chris [Underwood] and girls has been great. I know they say that you’re away from the team, but they always check on you and when you’re in your down bits they pick up and you’ve got to go again.
“It’s never a straight road with an injury, ever. You have just got to get through the ups and downs, tough bits and when you get back it’s all worth it. There is no doubt that it is worth it.”
Sargeant started in City Women’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion as she completed 45 minutes in her return to action.
The Robins are preparing for the first of their final three games in the Barclays FAWSL season as they take on relegation rivals Aston Villa on Saturday. Sargeant stresses the group know the full importance of this weekend’s fixture in their bid for survival.
“The weekend [FA Cup loss to Brighton] didn’t go our way, but there were some good bits of football to take into this weekend. Everybody knows how big Saturday’s game is and everyone’s ready for it, ready to fight given the position that we’re in and trying to stay in the league.”
She continued: “When you find yourself in the position that we are, teams will find that extra 10%, that 5% even - that’s the fight within, winning first and second balls and having the extra strength needed to perform.”
Bristol City Women travel to the Banks’ Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on Aston Villa Women (12.30 pm KO) and supporters can watch all the action for free on the FA Player App.
