The Robins held a slender lead coming out of the changing rooms at half-time and a much improved second period from the Blues saw Christie Murray bring the hosts level with a sweet strike to find the top corner.

The visitors had chances to win the game through Ebony Salmon and Molly Pike, however neither could find the net as Beard’s side had to settle for a point from their travels to the Midlands.

“It was a game of two halves,” he said. “The first half we did really well, although we let them [Birmingham] come into the game in the last 5-10 minutes. “

“We’ve got to give them [Birmingham] credit for their second half performance, they came out and put us under pressure – it was frustrating for us to concede from a set-play.

“I felt our decision making in the final third let us down but it’s another point on the board. I would much rather have points on the board than games in hand going into the business end of the season.

“We now go above Aston Villa in the table, and we’ve got to take the positives from this performance and move forward.

“You always expect a reaction from Birmingham. We said throughout the week that they were never going to give up on anything.

“Ebony went through and narrowly missed at the far post, which makes it 2-0 and then they go up the other end and score. Molly should have probably squared it to Charlie, and she would have had an open goal to slot the ball in to - they’re the little things that we’ve talked about.

“Everyone has put in a good shift today. It’s not a disaster that we haven’t won the game as it’s important we continue to pick up points, it’s an important point going forward.”
