Layzell, who turned 18 yesterday, has agreed to professional terms which will see her talents remain in the West Country until at least the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The centre-back has demonstrated a versatility to her game in the two seasons she has been at City, having also been deployed at left-back as well as a deeper role in central midfield.

Layzell has made 22 appearances across the last two campaigns for the Robins and is currently on the England Player Pathway, having represented the Under-16s and Under-17s.

Speaking on her first contract, Layzell said: “Bristol City is a club that has given me fantastic opportunities to develop over the last couple of seasons and that’s massively aided my growth and understanding of the game.

“I’m grateful to the club and Lauren (Smith, Manager) for giving me the opportunity to sign my first professional deal, which is something you dream of when starting your journey in football.

“We’ve got an exciting group of players at the club, and we’ve already shown what we’re capable of in half a season together – I’m looking forward to seeing how we grow as team moving forward and where we can get to.”
