The Robins are back at the Robins High Performance Centre on Wednesday, October 11th (7:30 pm), for the FA Continental Cup Group D opening fixture against Southampton FC Women.
Amalie Thestrup netted again on Sunday to make it two goals in two games for the summer signing. City are knocking at the door of their first win of the season and with Saints sat at the top of the Championship table it’s likely to be a feisty affair at the Robins HPC.
OUR OPPONENTS: SOUTHAMPTON FC WOMEN
Formed: 2017
Stadium: St Mary’s Stadium
Nickname: The Saints
Manager: Marieanne Spacey-Cale
Finish Last Season: 6th
The Saints earned promotion to the Barclays Championship from the FA Women’s National League South in May 2022. Saints had a strong first season in the Championship and impressively finished mid-table. Following their formation in 2017, the side has progressed rapidly from ammeter to semi-professional to a full professional side pushing for promotion this year.
They currently sit top of the Championship table winning four of their opening six games so far most recently beating Watford 2-0 away from home. Southampton FC Women are a familiar opponent for the Robins with the two sides having met numerous times over the last two seasons so supporters can expect a competitive evening at BS8.
