Bristol City hit the road for their first away fixture of the season against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, October 8th (2pm).

It’s gearing up to be another tough test against quality opposition, but Lauren Smith's side have plenty to build on from their opening fixture against Leicester City.

Summer signings Carrie Jones and Amalie Thestrup both left their calling card with a goal apiece, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat on opening day. Spurs also failed to get a result, losing 2-1 to Chelsea, so fans can expect a fiercely-contested affair at Brisbane Road.

Sunday marks the first of three fixtures in seven days for the Robins and three points would put them in good stead ahead of The FA Women’s Continental League Cup meeting with Southampton at the Robins High Performance Centre on Wednesday, October 11th.

OUR OPPONENTS: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (A)

Formed: 1985
Stadium: Brisbane Road
Nickname: The Lilywhites
Manager: Robert Vilahamn
Finish Last Season: 9th

In 2019 Tottenham Hotspur Women finished second in the FA Women’s Championship which earned them promotion to the Barclays WSL. In their first season in the WSL, the Lilywhites recorded an attendance figure of over thirty-eight thousand – the highest ever for a WSL game at that time.

Tottenham are in a period of transition after naming Robert Vilahamn as their manager on a two-year contract in July. Vilahamn joins from the Swedish side BK Hacken where he enjoyed great success and this will be his first test in the WSL. The Lilywhites have also strengthened their ranks with the likes of former Robins loanee Grace Clinton (on loan from Manchester United), Martha Thomas and Luna Buhler – who all featured in their opening fixture against Chelsea.

Tottenham fell to Chelsea on the opening day of the season. Martha Thomas tapped home a consolation goal in the 76th minute but Chelsea’s two goals were the difference at Stamford Bridge. Yearning for their first win of the season, Spurs will be hoping for a dominant performance against Bristol City.
