Matthews came on as a half-time substitute in the Robins’ defeat to Everton and she’s excited to get ‘back to business’ with the her teammates.
“It was really good to be back with the girls and getting some minutes under my belt. A bit rusty in the first 45 minutes, but happy to be back doing what I love to do,” said Matthews.
“I was in with the injured girls for a few weeks, while I was trying to get back fit. They took me under their wing, and we had a good laugh, but now it is back to business with the team and trying to get some good results under our belt.
“Looking back, we played some good football at times and definitely finished the game strong, but we just need to cut out those individual errors and then we can be competitive against a top team like Everton.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game, they’re a top side, they’re champions [Chelsea]. We’re going to be up against it, so we’re going to have to work hard as well as focus on ourselves. If we look after the ball a lot better than we have been then we give ourselves a better chance.
“Matt has said it a lot since coming in - it’s a marathon not a sprint. That’s the attitude in the camp and if we take each game as it comes and back the ability we have within the group, we believe we have enough to stay in this league. And that is what we’re determined to do.”
