After a month away, Bristol City are back in action as they welcome Liverpool to Ashton Gate in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup (2pm).
Lauren Smith’s side are still looking for their first win of the season in BS3, but will take confidence from their performance against Liverpool when they made the trip to Merseyside last month, where the game ended 1-1, with The Robins eventually left feeling disappointed to not take all three points.
Amalie Thestrup bagged her fifth of the season in that one, and City’s top scorer will be looking to continue her fine start to the season heading into 2024.
OUR OPPONENTS: LIVERPOOL
Founded: 1989
Stadium: Prenton Park
Nickname: The Reds
Manager: Matt Beard
Finish Last Season: 7th
In Matt Beard’s first spell at the club, he led Liverpool to back to back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014, but The Reds have failed to replicate such success since.
Beard left the club and would eventually go on to manage City in 2021, and Liverpool were subsequently relegated to the Championship on a points-per-game basis after the season was curtailed due to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
After Beard returned to the club, The Reds pipped City to the Championship title in 2021/22, and were promoted back to the WSL.
The Merseyside club have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, finding themselves fifth on eighteen points after ten games, but will be expecting a stern test from Lauren Smith’s side, similar to their meeting in December.
