Bristol City are back at Ashton Gate as they welcome Charlton Athletic on Sunday, March 16th (2pm).

The Robins are looking for a response after a tough couple of results, a goalless draw against Southampton in BS3, and a 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United in the North East.

Malaika Meena got her first goal for the club in the defeat to The Magpies last time out, and Steve Kirby will be hoping she can continue her bright start after joining in January.

OUR OPPONENTS: CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Founded: 2000
Stadium: The Valley
Nickname: The Addicks
Manager: Karen Hills
Finish Last Season: 2nd

Under a number of different names, Charlton Athletic were known as one of the most successful clubs in the domestic women’s game.

After the men’s team were relegated from the Premier League in 2007, the women’s team was disbanded, before a rescue sponsorship package allowed the setup to continue under the control of the clubs Community Trust.

In 2018, The Addicks were promoted to the Barclays Women’s Championship after winning the Women’s Southern Division title, and beating Northern Division winners Blackburn in the play-off final.

Since promotion, they have established themselves as a solid Championship side, finishing mostly in the top half without troubling the promotion or relegation places. Last season however, they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League, finishing a point behind Champions Crystal Palace.

Karen Hills’ side have had a strong campaign to date, finding themselves third in the league, four points above City, albeit The Robins have a game in hand.
