A full-strength Citizens line-up was too much to handle at the Robins High Performance Centre as four goals from Bunny Shaw and a stunning strike from Filippa Angeldahl saw them 4-0 up at the break.
Despite a first goal in Bristol City colours for Gracie Pearse, the afternoon got no better, as the visitors found a further four goals.
"It was a tough game against world class opposition," said Smith. "Praise goes to the team because they did their jobs well and we made Man City find different ways round us, but unfortunately they did that on numerous occasions.
"We can look for the positives like the fact they didn’t play trough us in the first half which was one of our objectives, but it opened up in the second half.
"It was great to get a goal and have more of the ball in the second half but they have such quality all over the pitch and if you stop them out wide then they’ll create you problems through the middle."
BS8 welcomed a record-breaking crowd for the afternoon's action and Smith continued: "We had a huge crowd this afternoon and the support was fantastic. I hope they come back and see us for the rest of the league campaign as well."
