The Robins took the lead in the first half through the prolific Abi Harrison, who picked out the back of the net in the 17th minute.

City had plenty of chances to add to the scoreline on Sunday afternoon but Harrison's finish was all that separated the two sides come the full-time whistle.

Speaking to Robins TV, Smith said: "I'm pleased with the win and the clean sheet as Blackburn put us under a lot of pressure in the second half.

"It feels like a gritty win but sometimes you have to win ugly and that's what we did."

"Credit is due to our backline players as their speed and their tenacity keeps us in games and they deserve the praise."
