The Robins had taken the lead early on when Aggie Beever-Jones’ dangerous cross was turned into the back of the Man City net by Alex Greenwood.

The Citizens responded twice before half-time through Bunny Shaw to take a slender 2-1 lead going into the break, before Vicky Losada wrapped up proceedings on the 60th minute.

Speaking to Robins TV, Smith said: “They (Man City) have got some very good players. They move it (the ball) around and their movement is excellent - we’ve tried to stop one problem and then they have caused us another.

“I’m very proud of the team to get this far and to put up a performance like we have today. We’ve defended the goal for long period of the game, and we’ve defended it well.

“Today was about seeing where we’re at. We said we’re not going to change what we’re doing at the moment, because we’re good at it and we wanted to test that against a WSL team. That’s great to see as well because it shows that they (the players) had belief in each other.”
