‘Test of character’ - Oxtoby.

Bristol City Women will be looking to claim the last three points available this season and cap what has been a memorable year.

Oxtoby has encouraged her side to put last weekend’s result behind them and put in a ninety minute performance they can be proud of.

Finish on a high

“We’ve spoken about ensuring we finish as high up the table as we can and we want to compete for that fifth spot if possible, but we know that is out of our hands. We can only do what we can and that is put in a good ninety minute performance at the weekend.

“We’ve got to rectify the performance from last weekend because that is not acceptable at this club and the players and staff know that, so there is a little carrot dangling there for us to finish as high up the table as possible.”

Mental challenge

“It’s been a long period of time since we started our journey and I think that for the girls it’s getting to that point where it’s a little mentally draining.

“There is still a lot to play for and we want to finish on a positive, but this season as a whole and where we have come from has taken it’s toll on the group a little.”

Bounce back ability

“This weekend’s game is going to be a test of character and how we can bounce back, we have done that previously after we played West Ham back in November and we bounced back really well from that, so I’m hoping we can repeat that.

“We’ve really dissected - in a positive way - what our learning are from last week’s game, but to have back to back performances won’t be acceptable and to the standards we set ourselves, so we’re definitely looking for a response.”

Threats

“It’s going to be a good game against West Ham, because they have got some really good players who are very quick and can hurt you on the counter.

“They also like to move the ball around, they’re not one dimensional in how they play so we’re going to have be really compact and make it difficult for them to play, while being effective going the other way.”
