Shania Hayles' first half double set City on their way before Ella Powell scored her first goal for the club to mark her 50th appearance.
Substitute Jasmine Bull added late on to score her first goal for City, with Abi Harrison netting in added-time to complete a five-star performance for the Robins in the North East.
"I think the whole team played their part excellently," said Smith. "I'm really pleased with how we pressed the ball, kept possession and shifted it through the pitch - I think it was a really sound team performance."
City return to Ashton Gate next weekend with a record crowd expected to watch the Robins take on Charlton Athletic. A win at Ashton Gate will seal the title and a return to the Barclays Women's Super League.
"We need everything now. We've asked of it from the staff, players and everyone at the club is behind us, and now we need the whole city behind us if we're to make next weekend a big, positive day like it was today."
