City had a great chance to open the scoring when Morgan won the ball just outside the box and delivered a ball into the box, but Chloe Bull couldn’t quite get on the end of it.
Lois Heuchan had a great chance to hit the back of the net as Megan Wynne delivered a ball right to her feet, but the Addicks attacker failed to hit the target.
Just minutes later Heuchan had the ball in the back of the net as she volleyed in Elise Hughes’ cross from the right.
Elise Hughes put the visitors 2-0 up in the 73rd minute when she tapped in from close range after the ball eventually fell to her from Lois Roche’s corner.
Speaking to Robins TV, Smith said: “Charlton have come and given us a good game, they beat us to every ball and their press was better than ours. They played better than us so they deserved the win.
“We know we can be better and that performance doesn't show how we really play. We can play it quicker and be more confident than we were tonight.
“The crowd was excellent so thank you to them."
