‘We want to finish on a high’ - Baggaley.

Qualification from Group 1 North is only possible if Bristol City Women can win by four or more goals this evening, but Baggaley is solely focused on the team’s performance and making sure they back up Sunday’s impressive, 2-0 away victory over Everton Ladies in the Women's Super League.

“I think it will be tough to qualify this evening but we always go into every game with the belief we can get the result, otherwise we're not going to perform to the level we want to.

“At the start of the year we looked at the Continental Cup and we saw that we had a tough group with Manchester City and Birmingham, as well as the two Championship teams, but we want to test ourselves as that is the only way we’re going to improve.

“We’ve played Birmingham previously in the season, so we know what they’re about. They’re a team that likes to move the ball and they’re one of the best in the league at it, so that means we’ve got to be switched on for the duration of the game to make sure we can get a result.”

Bristol City Women and Birmingham City’s previous encounter came back in October, when Tanya Oxtoby’s side were undone by a long range Aoife Mannion strike but Baggaley believes the squad have learnt and grown as group since their previous meeting.

“We’ve had a bit of an up and down season, but we’re still such young group and we’re learning all the time.

“We’ve come a long way this season as a team, we've learnt a lot about ourselves and coming into the last game before the Christmas break we’re happy with where we are at, but we’re always wanting to improve and better ourselves.

“Over the last couple of games we’ve got a lot better in-possession and our overall game is taking more shape as we learn more about each other and get more comfortable with the style of football we’re wanting to play - which can only be a good thing going into the New Year.

“We want to finish the year on a high and we’ll be very happy if we can look back at this last week with three wins from three games.”
