'We've got to take it up another level' - Purfield.

The Robins head into their cup showdown with the Foxes buoyed by their first win league of the season against the Seagulls.

Purfield has praised the collective effort of playing and coaching staff to keep City Women in the battle for survival and believes their newfound confidence and belief can spur them on to secure a place in the final.

“We deserved our win at the weekend with the work that everyone has been putting in over the last couple of weeks and Matt coming in and putting his methods into practice,” said Purfield.

“It was great to see it all come together, everyone had each other’s back and put in a shift. We wouldn’t have got that result if it wasn’t for all the work put in by every player, sub and member of staff.

“I think we have got a new belief about us now and rightly so. We’re earning the right to play, but we have got to keep grounded as it is only the start and we’ve got to work harder every single session to make sure these results continue."

The full-back returned to the starting line-up following a 10-day isolation period earlier this month and completed 90 minutes in the Robins’ 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Purfield believes a place in the FA Continental Cup final will give the group a huge confidence boost as they look to maintain their Barclays FAWSL status come the end of the season.

“Who doesn’t love a cup run? The confidence you can take from a cup run into the league is massive. We’re really excited, we want to be in a cup final – it’s going to be a battle,” added Purfield.

“Leicester are a good team and we know it is not going to be an easy game,” she added.

“They’ve shown their quality and consistency throughout the Championship season so far and we know they can’t be underestimated. We’ve got to take confidence from our last win and fight to book a place in the final.

“We’re not going to shy away from the challenge, we’ve worked even harder in training to ensure we’re in the best place possible going into Wednesday’s game.

“Depth and competition is exactly what we need in the squad right now. We can’t be complacent, and we can’t have the same team play every week, everyone is going to have to step up and play their part.”

Bristol City Women take on Leicester City Women in the semi-final of the FA Continental Cup live on the FA Player from 7:30pm.
